What Hat…and whose Hat are you Wearing?

This mornings briefing will be a deep one to say the least. This article is really for those who are really seeking the Lord for light in this area of their walk with the Lord and who are further along with their walk in the word of God. Some of these truths may be hard to grasp immediately; but if you will come back to this briefing time and again you will be blessed beyond measure.  Today’s teaching is not one you can just quickly read and then lay aside.  You will need to search the scriptures and break out the study books; but most importantly you will need to meditate on these things and seek the Lord and His word concerning these issues.  But the spiritual benefits you will receive will be unprecedented.

Let’s lay a foundation first so that it will be easier to connect the dots of this teaching.  You will remember that in 1st Cor. 15:46 it says, “However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and then afterward the spiritual.” Let’s explain this verse a bit further. Spiritual truths are built on natural truths.  Jesus always used natural ideas and speech to explain spiritual truths.  The reason He had to do this is because “the natural man cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1st Cor. 2:14).

So in other words we can see spiritual truths by understanding natural things that are written in the word of God.  And you will remember that Paul said in Galatians when speaking of Hagar verses Sarah – that these two women represent two different covenants, two different mountains, two different Jerusalem’s.  He uses this portion of scripture to elaborate on grace (promise) verses law (bondage). See Galatians 4:22-26.  Paul’s exact words in v.24 are “…which things are an allegory.”

1st Cor. 10:11 says, “Now all these things (all the things written in the Old Testament concerning all the events of the children of Israel) happened unto them for examples: and they ARE WRITTEN for our admonition (warning).”

Romans 15:4 says, “For whatever things were written aforetime (before the New Testament was written) were written for our learning.” And then we will quote just one more verse (out of over 50 verses we could mention) to drive this truth home a bit deeper: “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” (1st Cor. 10:4)

So then, was the Rock an actual person? No.  But it represents a spiritual truth.  So now we can see that the Holy Spirit can bring out the truth that the Rock from which the water came out of at Horeb represents Christ. Okay, I think we’ve established the divine principle of type-and-shadow (namely that the type in the Old Testament reveals the shadow in the New Testament & that the shadow of the Old Testament is connected to the reality in the New Testament because the shadow always follows the real thing in reference to the sun (Son).

Now let’s move on to the teaching.  Consider this section of divine scripture: “And they made…a miter (turban or “hat”) of fine linen…and wrote upon a golden plate ‘”Holiness unto the Lord”’ and they tied it to the front of the miter, as the Lord commanded. And it shall be upon Aaron’s forehead.” Exodus 39:27-31 and 28:38

Let’s look at this “hat” for a bit.  It was made of blue fine linen.  Blue represents that which is heavenly in nature. Ezekiel 1:26 says that His throne was the color of a sapphire (blue) stone. Numbers 15:38-39 says that the commandments of the Lord were to be remembered by the children of Israel by them sewing blue borders upon the fringes of all their garments. Numbers 4:5-7 the ark of the covenant and all the other furniture in the tabernacle was to be covered with a blue cloth -representing its close association with the word of God. These are enough to show the principle that blue represents heavenly things.

Now notice that the “hat” was to be made of fine linen.  You will remember that our Lord’s undergarments [not a coat as some suppose – just look it up in a Thayer”s or other bible dictionary] (tunic NKJV, vesture KJV) was made of fine linen [the priests undergarments were to be made of fine linen (Ex. 28:42) that their nakedness be not seen when they ministered to the Lord].  So yes, our Lord was crucified with no clothes on to add to the humiliation of His sufferings.  But here’s the point on the fine linen: it represents the righteousness of the saints. “for the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints.” Rev. 19:8

Now let’s link that Revelation 19:8 verse back with the “hat” that Aaron was to always wear when he ministered to the Lord and you will see that the “hat” made of fine linen represents the righteousness of Aaron before the Lord.  But remember what was written (Holiness unto the Lord) and where it was to be worn…across his forehead.

The forehead represents the mind.  Is your mind holy before the Lord today? Is it a washed mind? Is it a renewed mind? Have you forgotten that Ephesians 4:23 says, “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind.”? All of the priestly garments (including the “hat”) was to washed a certain way.  Does that remind you of Ephesians 5:26 “That He might sanctify and cleanse it (you) with the washing of water BY THE WORD.”  The mind is to the spirit what the brain is to the body.  The brain interprets outward stimuli and translates everything into information that we can use.  It also controls all the motor functions of the body and tells it what to do.  The brain processes information (millions of bits of information daily); and also the mind works with the soul and the spirit to interpret spiritual things.

The Christian is commanded to be transformed by the renewing of his mind.  This is satan’s playground.  Don’t give him any territory.  The word says, “we are not ignorant of his devices.” This word “devices” should have been translated “thoughts”.  This is how he works brethren…it is in the thought life.  And if you invite him over for dinner in your mind, he’s gonna bring his pajamas.  You will notice that he didn’t come against Eve’s heart, or spirit.  No, he came against her mind!!

Let’s move on to Zechariah 3.  Here we have Joshua the high priest (who served at the altar for 25 years from 515-410 BC) standing before the Angel of the Lord (Christ) in filthy garments and a filthy miter (“hat”) and Zechariah says in v.5, “Let them place a clean turban upon his head, and clothe him with clean garments“.  Please notice that the turban (mind) is mentioned first.  You can’t have clean garments without first having a clean mind.  You must first wash the inside of the cup and then the outside will be clean also (automatically). Matt. 23:26.  Did you really catch that?? “Wash the INSIDE of the cup (the “cup” is you according to many references in scripture) and then the outside will become clean also.”  If you take care of the mind, the rest will take care of itself.  Don’t expect your garments to be clean if you haven’t washed the mind first with the word of God and a commitment of your will.

When He looks at you, does He see “Holiness unto the Lord” written across your forehead, or does He see a filthy “hat” with abominations written across your mind? Make no mistake about it, your conscience will give an account of all things done and said and taken into your mind on that great and fearful day.  It says in the word that God seals His saints in their foreheads (Eze. 9:4 & Rev. 7:3 & Rev 14:1); and it also says that satan seals his servants in their foreheads.  Whose seal do you have today?  We had better be giving earnest heed to these things.

Jesus said that in the very last days it would be like it was in the days of Noah.  The word of God says that Noah was a preacher of righteousness (2nd Peter 2:5) and that he preached for 120 years while he made the ark.  Who listened to him? Not one single person!!  How many people got saved during his 120 years of preaching ministry?  Not one single person!!  Why is this? Because they had closed their ears to the truth and hardened their hearts.  According to divine scripture, the heart becoming hard, the ears becoming deaf, etc., begins with the mind becoming darkened.

Are you listening to the words of Life?  Does your “hat” really say “Holiness unto the Lord” across it or does it say just the opposite?  It’s time to wise up (Matthew 25:2) and wake up (Romans 13:11).  Brethren, you had better be being very careful what you allow into your mind!!  The mind is the doorway to the spirit.  This is how the spirit in 2nd Cor. 7:1 becomes filthy…is by what you allow to breed and reside in your mind!!!!!!  WAKE UP OUT OF YOUR SPIRITUAL STUPOR and put off the old man and put on the new man.

If your mind is filthy (sealed by satan) upon His return, you will miss out on the rapture, the marriage supper of the Lamb, and all of the blessings of being in His presence.  Just because you wanted to live for yourself and fill your mind with worldly, satanic, selfish, ungodly things.  OH…the pleasures of sin for a season; how utterly deceiving it all really is!! “Is the cup of thine iniquity not yet filled” I have heard Him say.

Return to the Lord today.  Let Him put His fear into your heart, so that you may not sin against Him (Deut. 30).  Take His righteousness, put on His “hat.” Let every man, every saint, every angel, and every single devil see “Holiness unto the Lord” written across your mind when they look at you.

TAKE HEED BRETHREN & I’ll see you on the front lines
